I thought this information was really interesting. According to the article, Upcoming changes to Reader: a new look, new Google+ features, and some clean-up posted by Alan Green, Software Engineer- Google, Google Reader will be undergoing a whole new look which will help integrate its functionality with Google+.
Here is the key part of the article:
“Many of Reader’s social features will soon be available via Google+, so in a week’s time we’ll be retiring things like friending, following and shared link blogs inside of Reader.”
Again, if you have used these features in the past with Google Reader like I have, it will be interesting to see what they will look like very soon inside Google Plus.
Some things that stand out for me as a marketer with this latest news:
- Real-time search will be huge. Some searches may focus on today’s information as opposed to information from the past.
- Social and search will be closer integrated with this latest change
- RSS Feeds may be getting more of a boost.
- Google Circles will play a bigger role with the way you communicate to your readers
These items are just a few of the items I thought about as I read this post.
What type of things do you see with this latest announcement? It never hurts to take a high level look at possible changes down the road, so you are better prepared to react when the functionality is available.
