Everyone wants the latest breaking news or tip that will get you ahead in 2012.
Here is some advice! – Make your own news. Do your own research and keep abreast of news updates on Twitter. Yes, Twitter is still a viable news channel when news first comes out. After that, everyone and their brother retweets the top stories and shares the same links.
My advice to you. Stop being a follower of the news. Make your own news. Yes, you heard me correctly, write and produce your own news. It really starts with planning. Look for areas you want to spend your time and energies in and gain as much information as possible about these areas.
If you do decide to broadcast your own news, work towards being a leader in a particular area and speak from experience.
The news is overrated and becoming more and more boring and repetitive. People reading your posts and blogs want more and deserve better. Some of the best information I receive comes from people’s blogs, because it is based on their experience, knowledge and presentation of the subject matter.
Think about it, if you maintain a blog site, you need to be focused on a particular area and talk about topics that will add value to your readers. A television news station needs to cover general news topics, weather and sports and has 30-35 minutes to deliver this information.
Blogging is becoming more appealing because it has a specific topic, specific readership, fresh content and can be shared with others via different social media channels.
Here is a big “Stop Doing” task that I am going to do in 2012. I am going to stop reading social media posts with links that reiterate news information that was released by a major news outlet. I can get the news by going to my local newspaper website or a national news site.
Instead, I want to read information that is different, interesting and spoken from first-hand experience. It really starts with the people I follow on Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and Google+. I need to follow people who are making the news, not people who are re-communicating news. This will save me a lot of time in the future and will help me connect with interesting people, not general news people.
Hey – just a thought, but a time-saving one if you ask me.
