I am relying too much on the content on my blogs to drive my conversation.
I am tired of the articles which state you must have a presence on social media platforms to be successful
I want a new way to look at social media
No one really has found an effective way to get the most out of social media as a marketing channel.
I have decided to go back to the fundamental questions:
Why should someone read this blog?
Does this blog offer some great tips for working with social media and marketing in general
Why would people want to connect with me on social media?
Who are the “real customers and friends” on social media that I want to connect with?
These questions really help define who you are and what you want. This is really critical if you are going to create a niche conversation and connect with the best people.
As I pondered these questions, I wrestled with a number of issues:
How much time am I spending on social media?
Where are my clients at?
What conversations should I be looking at?
How can I get better and make more of a difference?
Then it hit me, it is about building some new teams! YES TEAMS!!!! I want to be a team player and change my attitude. As a team player, I want to work hard and contribute. Some of the teams I want to be a part of are the following:
Professional Marketing Team – I want to connect with some of the best people across the industry and see if their techniques can help me in my current position. Also, help others in similar positions and in my local community.
Customer Team – I need to actively go out and seek clients in industries that need laboratory testing. I need a fresh message and also seek out questions people have respect to testing and show them how testing can add value.
Innovation Team – I want to reach out to the great innovators in the world that may be able to add their expertise to help improve our lab processes.
So, starting today, I have put on my recruiter hat and I am looking to connect with the best people for these teams. This perspective will now shape the way I use social media platforms and the way I produce content on this blog site and my company blog site. Are you interested in being a part of these teams? Please let me know. What teams are you trying to start or be a part of? I think this concept is really the key to having the right focus on social media platforms.
Let me know what you think of this model for approaching social media. I would really like people to weigh-in on this subject. I know it is probably not anything new, it is just a way for me to help formulate my ideas. Please share your comments.
