Who you associate speaks volumes about you. I have talked about this in the past, but what is the best way to do this.
I really like to utilize Twitter Lists. In fact, I have decided to create a new list, “Best of the Best” – Private List. In the past, I have started other lists on different topics or around group themes. These types of lists are good lists to help serve as a guide, but often times I really miss out on conversations with particular people that I want to talk with. These could be experts in a particular discipline, good conversationalists, great bloggers or just plain good friends. This list will be much smaller than my others and I think I will cap it at 50 to start
It is always good to connect with a few people and make sure you let them know that you read their tweets as well.
Now a message for the detractors:
There are still a few people out there who say people who have many followers but only follow a few are not good engagers.. – – This is really not true.
Most people who only follow a few and have many followers are actually telling the truth more. It is very hard to engage everyone each day. Can someone who actually follows 50,000 people really engage with all of them or want to engage with all of them. Do you engage everyone at a networking event? Who do you seek out? Maybe a potential client or someone who may be a fried or advocate.
There only a few in this latter group.
There are others who only follow people who follow me back. These are the real people on Twitter. – – This is very old school. Takes me back to 2008.
Follow/Follow back people are in it for the numbers. That kind of thinking went out a long time ago.
In my case, I currently follow 800. Am I close to all 800? The answer would be “no” I even tried to build a Twitter list to help me. The problem is that my Twitter List is too big and now it has become another column I watch every so often.
The answer to building quality is connecting with higher quality people and fewer of them. I didn’t say it would be easy.
By utilizing Twitter lists to help me with this process, I will be able to cut down the number of contacts I am monitoring and will be able to add value in additional conversations with the people I want to work with. .. In addition, I will actually follow more conversations in the process.
Fewer People to Follow “with” More Conversations I can View “and” More opportunities to engage “will give me a” Better Experience on Twitter
