Past Approach – Very Boring
In the past I was very good at checking my Twitter account using Tweetdeck and monitoring the mentions and interactions columns. I would check and see if anyone had mentioned my name and called me out. This process works for those people who are relatively famous and have tremendous followings. It also works for people like myself who post links to blog sites or retweet some articles and information I have read. I may get 1 or 2 mentions or retweets and maybe up to 6-8 in a day.
Notice here, I am very concerned about counting and tracking my results. With the example stated above, I am pretty much another number on Twitter.
In 2013, I decided to shake this approach up a bit. Here are some of the new processes I am using to connect. You have access to all of these processes.
Twitter Search – You should look at this today
Wow – Has this improved! Have you tried Twitter Search lately? Search your own contacts, search everyone. Pick a particular topic and perform a local search with Advanced Twitter Search. I use this tool a lot. Almost ranks up there with Google.
@name – Call Someone out
Call out people. – Yes be unpredictible. Ask people how they are doing? Respond back with a response to something they just posted. Tell people to read something that this person did.
Mentions / Interactions – Chill a bit, you have your data and time
These items will always be there, if you use Tweetdeck. In my book you have 12 hours to get back to them. A number of people schedule their tweets. Give yourself some time and work on the other items mentioned above. This way, you will be able to see more mentions and interactions.
Tweet Live Happenings, (Events) as they Happen – Anything else is old news
Yes – This is the power of twitter and this is the strength of Twitter. Live Search is here. Old news is the TV News. Current news is the news you produce.
Make a new connection each day – Make it a quality connection
Make sure the connection is a quality one and adds value to your conversations. Don’t be about numbers, be about quality.
There are only so many hours in a day. Stop for a quick conversation, but don’t stay too long. You have other work to do. These people will still be there. People appreciate quick connections and being included, make sure you are doing your part.
Say something of value and have some fun, you will see how this experience can be a win – win for everyone.
