Before I go too far. Let me tell you that the best experience you can have is tweeting with a personal twitter id. People connect with People. This will not change.

However, if you are like me, I also want to have a company brand presence on Twitter.  I will say that Twitter is right up there with Facebook and Linkedin as far as having a company presence. I am still trying to make Google+ work and will continue to because I have seen results with respect to search.

With a company logo, I talk about company matters or news around the company that I think people would be interested in knowing.

Here are some items you should consider when getting your company online.

1) Try to get to 1,000 followers – You need this many to have a presence on Twitter. This takes some work, but it can be done manually and with supporting software. If you connect manually, you will be able to connect with the right people and not a bunch of people who have no interest in your company. (Takes about 3-4 months to complete this task)

2) Make sure in your profile name that you state “This is the Official Account for Company XYZ”

3) Make sure you have attached a link to your website or blog site. This site should be a site that is also regularly updated.

4) Share pictures, videos, interesting tidbits.

5) Be professional – Keep this in mind and try not to take on a personal identity unless your name is listed in the company profile. I have tried to mention my name, but I find it a bit uncomfortable and I think you need to draw the line. It is for this reason that I have a separate personal id.

6) Search out key words and comment on someone’s post. (If you can do this step 5-10 times a day, you will see results much faster) It is not as easy as it sounds. It takes time.

7) Limit access to just a couple of people. Don’t share your id with several people unless you have a firm plan in place.

8) People like offers – Use them sporadically. You will be surprised at how offers will catch on quickly and you do not want to have to give something away almost every day.

9) Don’t repeat the same tweets. Too many companies tweet the same pitch for their products and services everyday. Don’t do this, you will quickly be unfollowed.

10) Use your personal id to draw attention to your company. This is a good way to promote your company to your own followers and it also lets people see another side of you. Don’t get carried away though. People will think self-promotion may be a bit too much and will unfollow you.

I agree. I’m ok if it is a blog post that gets repeated a few times, but I am talking about a company that posts the same price information on a particular product or service every single day. I quickly unfollow these type of companies.

Tip #9 is spot on for advice. A lot of companies tweet identical tweets throughout the day, and it gets pretty annoying. We have separate company accounts for twitter, too. Where we mainly post industry links. It’s pretty rare we send out a promotional tweet.
