In the past, I have always thought it was the appropriate thing to do, especially when the blog post or article was really good and I actually learned something. In addition, it has helped me connect with some great business leaders like Tom Peters.
Now with the recent attacks on WordPress sites and the increased spam comments occurring on contact pages, I have decided to initiate my comments on social media sites like Linkedin, Twitter and GooglePlus.
I have decided to do this for a couple of reasons:
- More people are getting their information on social media sites and I am always trying to connect directly with people on social media sites.
- I don’t want my name associated with spam accounts. I used to delete comments, clearly marked with spam, but now I am finding myself marking these comments as spam. My fear is someone will perceive my comments as too spammy, or worse yet not even read my comments and mark them as spam.
I am currently in a holding pattern and I want to see where this leads to, but for now I am very wary of any comments on my sites. In addition, I will not be writing comments on other sites for the foreseable future. Social media is the best alternative.
What are your thoughts? Am I taking this precaution to seriously? I would be curious to see and hear what others are doing.
