What if a company came to you today, and said they would like to give you $1,000,000.00 of business today. I’ll let you picture what that would look like for your business. (Think about it for a second)
For me, my heart would be racing and I would think about how I am going to effectively service this type of account. I would probably do a very quick SWOT analysis in my head. (SWOT – Company Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
I would probably be a bit skeptical and really question if this deal was going to actually happen or not.
Once I figured out that this deal was a legitimate deal, then a whole new set of processes would occur.
- How soon would this deal happen?
- Do we have the right resources in place to complete the deal?
- What are the clients’ requirements for the deal?
- Are there any potential issues with this deal?
- When will be able to deliver on this deal?
My point here is that we should have this frame of mind everyday in our businesses. Do we really know what to expect tomorrow? I tell this little scenario because many people think about business in these type of terms.
What are you doing currently to prepare your company for that potential day when your big client could arrive at your front door?
Think big and start looking for areas to expand. Look for ways to achieve higher efficiency. Take a closer look at your weaker areas and take steps to make them stronger. Continue to work toward a mindset of growth and big business, and soon will discover that if you start investing in your staff and resources for potential growth, you will be in a much better position when it occurs.
