This is where my thoughts are this Labor Day Weekend. Specifically, the end of 2015!
Where do I want to be by the end of the year. Over the past few weeks I have been collecting information both personally and professionally and my goal has been to open several projects as part of this process and hopefully complete them by the end of the year. I keep focusing and picturing where I really want to be.
I know you are probably like myself and have read all types of goal setting books. I really believe the thing that I am doing now is focusing on the end picture. It is helping me see that I really need to work work hard in some areas and invest a lot of time and resources in these particular areas. In other areas, I have some time to get things in place and make sure the planning process is complete with detailed objectives and lists of specific task/frequency that the need to occur.
As I continue to look at the company I represent, I am constantly being reminded that even though there are a lot of outside pressures affecting our company like regulations, audits and the weather, I need to be focused on where we need to go and keep working to get there.
Maintain a Schedule for Family Activities
Personally, I have goals too. I have family obligations. I want to be present during those great family activites, school and church events. Spending time in this area is a priority. Interruptions will occur, but it is important to visualize where you want to be by the end of the year. Think about this last comment for a second and I know you can come up with a list of projects as well.
Monitor Your Personal and Spiritual Health
Staying healthy is critical. For me it starts with prayer. Prayers for family and friends. Prayers for insuring a strong moral compass in the face of work tasks and day-to-day client and employee interactions. It is critical to find time to read and study. As good as our plans are for the end of the year, no one knows when their life could be taken away. A prayerful faith life in God will help provide you with the direction you need to see not only these last four months, but also each and everyday.
Activities and Exercise
Find something you can do outside of family and work. Maybe its reading a book, working out at the gym. Exercise is critical. I am finally getting to the point where I can exercise as part of a permanent change in my lifestyle. It is critical to get your blood flowing and your muscles tuned. Start slowly and then bring it on bit by bit. It can be a great way to release tension and start a day with a lot of energy.
Summary
I know this article seems simplistic, but if you really give it some thought and look at implementing some projects along the way with deadlines, you will begin to see how powerful this process can be. Starting with the end in mind is really the key. Know where you want to be and keep working and in some cases fighting to reach your goals. Communicate and share your progress with others along the way. Find people who are like-mined and will join you in your quest. Be encouraged by your progress and continue to make a difference.
