Yesterday, I had the call that we as marketers are always waiting for. A major retailer called and asked if he could have one of our retail branded services to display on a local television show. Yes! – All the hard work that went into the proper branding and look of that product came to fruition with that call.
It always feels great to get a winner from a major client. These type of business transactions do not come along everyday.
Everyday, I take a few minutes and think about what clients might want in 1- 5 years. Where will the markets be? Is there a way we can make a difference in our current markets. One of the secrets I have found that works well is to always check out industries outside of my current industry. By doing this I am able to check out some ideas that I can apply to products/services in my current market. My mail inbox is full of publications from different trade journals each day. I receive journals from food, landscaping, fuel, human resources, business, retail, mobile technology, water and others. Almost all of these are free. There are several free magazine sites like this one.
Some of these ideas then need to be tested at the next level through the development of brochures, new branding, introduction to current clients and discussion with other company associates.
My point here is keep dreaming and looking for opportunities. You nevenr know when the customer will call, and you want to be ready when they do.
