I recently heard a comment that I really found interesting.
I was talking to a person who considered himself a social media expert. I asked him what he thought of Facebook. His response to me was “I was on Facebook before it became popular and I quit a few years ago.” I don’t need to get back on because I pretty much know what to expect. I thought about this comment and thought to myself, I am guessing this guy has already quit working with Google+ too.
My point here is that many social media consultants who work with these different platforms like #Facebook, #Linkedin, #Twitter and #Google+ are often not working with these platforms on a regular basis. I think these people are missing the boat. I think these platforms are still in their infancy stage and all of us will learn how to use these platforms more effectively each day.
Before, you sign-on with someone, please check out their profiles on these platforms. As I continue to find new users on social media, I am finding that people who work with these tools on a regular basis and use these tools for their own companies are the best resources to follow and learn from.
If you are looking to find some new contacts on Twitter, do the following. Perform a Google Search using the following keyword phrases
“marketing director” twitter
“marketing manager” twitter
“marketing ceo” twitter
Notice, I don’t use the words, “social media” anywhere. These words are overused and will typically not take you to a person like the above key words will. You can perform the above task with your industry by typing the “job position” in quotes followed by the word twitter.
Try it and let me know if you have some other ways to create with great people.
