This past weekend I attended a local College’s Mens & Women’s basketball game. At the scoring table I saw three laptops all with Twitter displays. The people sitting in front of the laptops were providing people with updates from the games and communicating other sport scores from the soccer team and mens basketball team.
- Creighton University Athletics – Twitter Profile @GoCreighton
- Creighton Mens Soccer Team – @CreightonMSOC
- Creighton Womens Basketball Team @BluejayWBB
- Creighton Mens Basketball Team @BluejayMBB
Check out the tweets from these different profiles. All of them give live updates of the score or some aspect of the game that is occurring. The different twitter profiles also pass messages back and forth between the different sports teams and to the central sport profile, @GoCreighton.
Now Play-by-Play at your business
Wouldn’t it be cool if companies were this personal? Now I am not suggesting a full-time person for this type of play, but periodic updates throughout the day to help inform people about the work that you perform and possibly the benefits your clients receive. It would be cool to also link other departments together with their own twitter profile.
The great benefit of twitter is that you can post highlights throughout the day, in real time and the message can stay fresh versus a one-time shot of a video.
Now is a great time to come up with a plan and test it out. Find out how many people would be interested. The Creighton Teams have a limited “fan base” and they have a system that works. Your company may be in a similar situation.
If your company performs this type of tweeting on a regular basis, please leave a comment with your twitter handle. I would really like some good examples. I, myself am just starting to do this and I am looking to take it to a higher level. This is Social Business at a new level!
