Are Infographics Effective?

InfographicsIf you can find an article on this topic, I would gladly read it. I have come across a number of articles about how to write effective infographics and even viewed some infographics on the topic of writing effective infograhics, but can someone tell me how effective they really are.

Here are my thoughts on this topic. I believe you will see where I stand on this topic.

For me, it’s all about time. ( I have little time to waste! Time is important to me)

Give me a clever headline and a good opening paragraph and I am going to keep reading.

  • Infographics often have so too many directions and points that I get turned off and do not want to make the effort to read it.
  • I guess I have been burned too many times by poorly designed infographics that try to make ordinary data more than ordinary.

For me its about points to remember. (Three is tops for me, if you want me to remember you and your post)

Give me some bullet points,  quotes or character formatting so my eyes will be drawn to ways is imporant

  • Why do infographics try to picture 5 – 10 points? The page is so busy and it loses its effectiveness fast.
  • Also, I want to know where the information came from. Do you remember the source of the last infographic you read?

For me,  it’s about sharing  ( I want to write content that will be shared and rememberd)

As a marketer, I want to track content and key words.  I also need to write shareable content.

  • How many infographics do you remember and do you talk about?
  • How many people share infographics on Twitter? I see the most on Facebook and some on Google+.

Summary

I have not found enough convincing information to me that shows me that infographics are not an effective way to communicate information that is read by others and shared by others. Until someone can prove my theory wrong, I don’t plan on venturing into this medium.

So to review…

Infographics – Not worth the investment

  • Too much time
  • Too many points
  • Too little sharing
