Taking The Next Step in Digital Media

Digital Media StrategyIt is time to really get connected if you want to stay ahead of the curve.

I think the next goal for myself in 2013 is to find a deeper way to connect with clients and friends using digital media.

I am lumping social media, ipads, smartphones and new technologies into digital media. It really is the next channel that all of us need to look at with respect to the way we do business.

The pace of transactions and news is at a fevered pace. Everyday, if there is a “big” legislative decision or some type of news concerning the economy a series of actions begins like selling and buying on wall street. If bad news is handled online in a poor way, news gets out and the company could ultimately go under.

On a positive note, if people really like a particular blog post or a special deal, news can spread very quickly and the news could get spread and ultimately result in a viral production. (I would not recommend creating content to go viral as a goal — You may be very disappointed.)

These examples are the extremes. However, it does say something about where we are headed. People today, wake-up, grab their smart phone and check out the latest news in different ways: email, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, News Apps or Websites.

The key here is to formulate a plan to really think like our clients and make sure we are not so tunneled vision into thinking we need a Facebook Strategy or Twitter Strategy. All of these platforms are the new normal. It’s how we use these mediums that will make the difference. The past few years have been the experimental phase. People are trying to decide are these channels valid for conducting business or not. Many people have found success others have found less than satisfactory success.

I guess my point here is that I have spent a lot of time in 2013 talking about content marketing. I believe it really is a difference-maker and I am slowly working to really connect it with a people strategy. That people strategy needs  to really incorporate  digital media as a part of that  process.
