This past week, I did just this. I took some time off and I decided to check my emails and social media platforms from a distance. It was very refreshing to periodically look at customer inquiries and look at the new accounts being setup and how they heard about Midwest Laboratories.
In addition, I took advantage of the time off to read and follow more people on Twitter and Google Plus. In the process, I was able to really meet some very influential people and make some strong connections.
The biggest learning was the fact that it is so critical to build a strong brand regardless of the channel. In fact the strongest channel are other companies, vendors and current clients. Bottom-line, word of mouth or “Company Advocates” as I like to call them are the best line of marketers out there. Nothing speaks volumes more than a client talking about the experience they had at your company.
In addition, I am learning that if you want to have a strong content management initiatitive, you are going to have to write a number of articles on a particular topic and make sure you share this information on a number of different platforms includijng your blog site.
Also, it was cool to see how our client service team were resolving client questions regarding service. Working closely with a client service team is critical as a marketer. It helps validate the entire process coming together and working directly with clients.
The point of this article is the following; take some time to stop what you are working on and listen more and observe. You will see things in a whole new perspective and will be able to maximize your time and efforts going forward.
