Personal BrandingHere is a simple tip that has helped me gain some brand exposure for myself and the company I work for @midwestlabs.

The best way to find a win-win is to have a blog site for your own brand as well as a brand site for your company. I am an advocate that executives should talk about their passsions. One of these should be your company brand and the other should be some sort of interest you have that makes you interesting. Currently, I have a personal blog and this marketing blog site.  These sites have helped me meet some great people associated with marketing as well as some top-notch owners and CEO’s. In addition, I am staying connected with some great developers in mobile, website and computer technology.  As a result the lines are becoming blurred as I connect with people on Linkedin.

Company speaking, I have worked with our company blog site and other sites like our main company page and a mobile news site. These sites help bring in people from different directions and the key is that Google recognizes that I am a recognized author on these sites. This fall when Google Hummingbird and Google Authorship merged together, a new way of search ranking was born. It has taken a few months to see this process together, but the changes have begun paying off as more and more credibility is given to authors who update content on a regular basis and provide content that is value to people.

Up till now I have only talked about online personal branding, but off-line branding is just as critical. The landscape is changing and people are the focal point as company representatives. Mergers and acquisitions are happening at a rapid pace as companies try lookiing for ways to grow their businesses. As this occurs, people are watching which people are taking over and who the emerging leaders are.

Now you can apply this same philosopy to social media and have a personal id and a company id. Again, you will gain exposure for yourself as well as your company.

The best approach to take regarding personal branding is to determine what your focus is regarding yourself and your company and look for ways to maximize your influence so both brands get the proper attention they deserve. It is not an easy task, but if a person works at it, and brings their game plan everyday, you will see results.
