Obviously Taco Bell is playing off McDonald’s strong brand name that remains strong to this day. Now with companies merging and changing names, the power of people or characters associated with companies is also losing steam a bit. However, Taco Bell has found a way to make it work in its latest commercial.

I look at this the topic a bit different.
- It shows how powerful personal brands can be in association with their companies. It should be a driver for all business owners, CEO’s and Executive Managers. If you want people to relate to your company brand, it needs to become personal and ultimately it is people who represent the brand.
- The Taco Bell ad also shows me that companies can market to a particular generation who remember Ronald McDonald and will make the connection. I believe companies really need to get back to looking closer at niche markets and find ways to connect to them.
- Using people as a part of the marketing message is very powerful. I never realized how that Ronald McDonald is such a common name and it is cool to see all the different men with the same name from different areas of the company.
- Have fun and look for ways to always bring back a bit of history or nostalgia to your company. Bringing back Ronald McDonald is kind of an a-ha moment.
A cool story that should give all marketers another reason to keep working toward building and effective story using personal brands and people to drive home a message.
