Here is an article to read today: How to raise the IQ of your Business? by David Amerland, 05/22/21014
It will really get you thinking differently about the direction you are headed with respect to marketing.
I came away with the following thoughts:
Connections are critical!
At all levels inside and outside your company. If you want to keep up with change, you need to make sure you are continually growing and sharing information with your clients, advocates and professionals in your community. Watch what you say when you are in a crowd. Listen more to people’s needs and views. Continue to build a direction for the future and make sure people can easily see where you are headed. Continue to earn the trust of the people you serve.
Challenge yourself!
Continue to look at ways to become more integrated in this digital, information sharing culture. Take steps to protect your data. Look at your company in a new light with the advent of portable technology and a new group of up and coming graduates. Make sure you read news information affecting your company. Google Alerts is a great tool for finding news information for you while you work. Look at social media platforms as a way to create a stronger voice.
Ask questions!
Are you familiar with your company processes? Has a client called and you decide to take the call and tell the client you will call them back with an answer? This simple exercise will help you learn more about the wants and needs of your clients’ and will show you how your current staff responds to such requests. Ask clients more about the work that they are doing? Take interest in others? Attend a trade show or conference outside of your industry.
Take on more responsibility!
Try to get on a company-wide project. Meet with your IT team and learn more about the processes they are supporting and developing. Work closer with your client service department and supervisors to better serve clients. Get other people involved with your project work and look at things from a different perspective.
I am sure your list of thoughts will vary a bit, but I really did not want to restate exactly the same content that was stated in the article. We are living in interesting, exciting times where companies are positioning themselves for big growth. Even though the culture still seems a bit strapped, there is no slowing down or resting. Now, more than ever, it is time to put it in gear and make sure our marketing initiatives are working toward a better future.
What would you add to this list?
Take a second, read the article, mentioned above and reflect a bit as to where you currently stand.
