In 2014, I have tried to get out and look at fast-growing companies in my local area.
Connecting with people from these companies and making onsite visits has really opened my eyes and given me all kinds of ideas to take home. All of these companies are outside of my industry, but it hasn’t stopped me from wanting to learn more.
Some of theĀ areas that have really struck me are the following:
- A new look at some innovative work culture
- Type of employees being hired in these companies
- How these companies are embracing their markets
- How are these companies using different marketing channels to drive business
- Leadership traits
- Company storytelling
I have looked at companies like the following:
- Brewing Company
- Credit Union
- Banks
- Grocery Stores
- Retail Clothing Store
- Information Technology Company
- Colleges
- Event Centers
- Restaurants
- Wholesale/Distribution
Looking at other businesses up close is a rewarding experience. You will come away with all types of thoughts and questions. The best part of the process is that you can take this information and apply it to your own organization. If you can find fast-growth companies, you will see businesses in a whole new light. In today’s world, you are either growing or you are dying. Even with the current recession, some companies are finding ways to attract clients and grow revenues. Spend the time and try to get a sense of how they are accomplishing this.
Finally, consider opening up your business to your current clients and potential clients. This process will help your clients’ get a better picture of your own business. It has been a game-changer for our company.
