It’s Not About Quality Content – It’s about Something Bigger!

Content MarketingEveryone talks about writing quality content and sharing content with other people.

There are many articles on why you need to go out and start writing on a particular topic. Many of these articles talk about the following items:

  • You must know where your clients are and then share information with them.
  • If you are not writing content you are missing out.
  • It is all about quality content over quantity of content
  • Make sure you are finding your clients on all social media sites
  • Try to engage people by retweeting or mentioning their content

I have some suggestions, stop reading all the crap about why you should get involved in writing your own content and start looking closer at yourself and your message.

What are you passionate about?
If you had a group of 10 people ready to buy from you, what would you say to them?
Why are you excited about going to work each day?
What do you see on the horizon for you, your company and your customers?
What gets your heart pumping and excited?

This really is the key! Once you have a passion for your work, you start thinking in a different way and the platforms, sharing of content and quality quickly become  a secondary thought. It starts with you, as a writer wanting to get a message out to people and to help them learn something new that actually adds value to their life. Why would a person write content which adds no value?

Too much noise…

Today, there is so much general information and more pointless information. What happened to writing articles from personal experience? We need more people to write their own articles and stop curating articles.

Frustrated…

A few weeks ago, I was frustrated with the experience I was having with respect to content marketing and social media interaction. I wrote about my Twitter experience yesterday. Today, I am finding purpose again because I realized I was reading too many news articles. I want to read articles about people and their associated experiences. This informaiton is so much more valuable than news headlines and commentaries on news information.

Time for a Change…

I am taking steps to only write about personal experiences and hopefully cut down on news related articles.

I truly believe content written from the heart is much better received and people will share from their own experiences. This point was proved yesterday whenI received many more comments, suggestions and sharing from others who shared from their own view point.  It really opened up my eyes and showed me that if you write with passion and can show people your position with your own experience, you will have much more success connecting with people.

Don’t get caught up in all the semantics and information you read about content marketing. Start writing more with passion and share your own experiences and you will start building an audience for your work and you will not have to worry about all that other news information.
