In 2017, breaking through is what it is all about…
Many look to technology to help them break through…
Others have mentioned that you need to work harder than ever before…
It really comes down to one item for me…
Our business needs people and relationships to succeed. Without this, our business will fail and fail fast.
People want their questions answered on their time which is typically off hours. – > I am continuing to find the best approach and process to address this topic. We are moving closer and closer to a 24×7 client service environment.
It’s not about serving every person’s needs. -> It is about addressing every person’s needs and being able to answer their questions in a timely manner.
Stay positive when complaints occur -> I look at all client complaints as an opportunity to learn more from our clients and look for ways to improve.
Continue to work on learning people’s names -> This is an area I am working on every day with my own co-workers as well as others I come in contact with. The people who can do this well are those that are very successful.
Perform a self-audit. At the end of the day, I ask myself what did I accomplish and what do I need to continue to work on. I want to see projects: small or large completed in some way. When I leave projects in a state of “unfinished work” is when I start to see other areas falling off.
I try to schedule meetings early in the day or later in the afternoon. This way I am respectful of people’s time, and it helps keep the focus that meetings should be organized with an agenda and should have a start and end time. This small step has helped me work better with people during meeting times as well as set the direction for future work initiatives outside of the meeting.
Some people might be hurting the ability for others and myself to build relationships. This item needs to be carefully monitored and addressed appropriately. There are warning signs. Identify these signs and make sure this information is documented. It will help address the situation at the proper time.
Continue to meet with other professionals outside of work to help me see the business through a set of different eyes. (This has been a differentiator for me)
Continue to work on personal goals by building relationships in the areas of:
- Growing in Faith with others
- Being accountable to someone else with respect to diet and exercise
- Inviting people outside of work to meet and discuss different topics. (Networking never ends)
- Family -This one area can be a differentiator for setting the right priorities and proper accountability and support. (It is also the most rewarding and exciting relationship)
It really comes down to relationship building. This term is at the forefront of what I do every day. As a result, I am having a great 2017.
How about you? What would you add?
Thanks for reading.
